The History of ...The History of ... IWC... The Da Vinci  watch line first appeared around 1969-70 and was originally offered鈥攍ike so  many other 70鈥檚 era watches鈥攚ith a unique squarish case shape, an integrated  bracelet, and a quartz movement. Visually it looked much more like a precursor  to the Ingenieur than the Da Vinci model we have here. The Da Vinci would be   produced for a few more years before being shut down and then revived again in  1985. The 1985 version is where we first see the classic round, stepped case,  and distinct lugs, and it鈥檚 what I would consider this timepiece鈥檚 true  predecessor...          

The  featured watch described is a Swiss made IWC Portugieser Tourbillon IW546301 crafted brushed  satin finished 18k White Gold round shaped case measuring 43.2 mm diameter. Fixed 18k White Gold bezel, Manual-winding movement, power reserve  up to 卤 54hours.  Displays a Slate-coloured   dial with grey sunburst and applied White Gold Arabic numeral hour  markers,  silver-tone Feuille hands, indexes,  minute track at outer rim. Flying minute Tourbillon at 9 oclock, Small  hacking seconds at 6 oclock with stop function, three-quarter bridge. White  Gold pull  / push crown.  Double-sided anti-reflective  domed edge sapphire crystal, arched-edge, antireflective coating on both sides,  viewable caseback. The arched-edge front glass gives the watch  a classic, balanced appearance. The horns have also been ergonomically  optimized to make the watch more comfortable to wear on a slimmer wrist. This  elegant IWC Portuguese tourbillon has an attractive slate colour dial which is   nicely balanced thanks to the aperture for the tourbillion and  the constant seconds at 6 oclock under the  IWC signature. The sobriety of the dial is further enhanced by the White Gold  case which remains faithful to the original oversized models of this  diameter.  This 18k White Gold version comes with a dark  brown alligator leather strap from the House of Santoni. TOURBILLON

鈥淭he  tourbillon was originally designed to offset the gravitational error in pocket  watches; today it mainly serves an aesthetic function. For the tourbillon, the  balance, pallet and escape wheel are mounted in a tiny cage that rotates around  its own axis once every minute. The construction of this mechanism represents  an enormous challenge, and results in a filigree work of art consisting of 82  parts and weighing less than 0.5 grams.
